Giordan Watson '03

Central Michigan University

Giordan Watson played two years of Varsity football at Groves from 2001-02. While playing for Groves he was an all-league defensive back. Watson's main sport was basketball where he led the Varsity team to a district championship and a regional final against West Bloomfield. After Watson left Groves, he went on to play basketball at Central Michigan University where he would become the 4th all-time leading scorer in points, 2nd all time in 3 pointers made, 1st in steals and 1st in assists. After playing for Central, Watson would play professionally for several years in Europe.

JJ Vercammen '06

University of Dayton

JJ Vercammen lettered three times while playing at Groves. While playing for Groves he was known for his intensity and big hits. He was an all-county and all league selection as a senior. He also participated in wrestling and track while at Groves. After leaving Groves he would go on to have an outstanding football career at Dayton University where he was a two time Division I-AA all american in 2009 and 2010. After playing at Dayton, Vercammen would go on to play football in Europe for several years.

Aaron Webster '06

University of Cincinnati

Aaron Webster played three years of varsity football at Groves 03-06. While at Groves he played defensive back and wide receiver. He was an all-league and all county selection as a senior and currently holds the school's record for longest kickoff return. (98 Yards). Webster also lettered in basketball while at Groves. After high school he would attend the University of Cincinnati and start at safety for three years. Webster was a part of four bowl games at Cincinnati including the 2010 Sugar Bowl against the University of Florida. After college, Webster was on the practice squad for the Chicago Bears.

Eric Gerwin '96

Kalamazoo College

Eric Gerwin lettered twice while playing football at Groves. He was the second leading tackler as a senior and helped revive the Groves football program while playing on the league championship team in 1994. Gerwin attended Kalamazoo College where he would start at linebacker for four years. While at Kalamazoo, Gerwin was a D-III All American (4th team) in 1998 and MIAA defensive player of the year in 1999. He would become the school's second all time leading tackler (316 tackles) and is 8th on the all-time sack list. (10 sacks).

DeOn'tae Pannell '08

Penn State University

DeOn'tae Pannell would play three years of varsity football at Groves from 05-07. As a senior he was a dream team all state selection. He also participated in basketball and track while at Groves. After Groves, he attended Penn State University where he lettered four years, played on the Big Ten Championship team in 2008, played in the Rose Bowl in 2009, also played in three other bowls. He started several games throughout his college career. Pannell would get a shot at the pros and was one of the final cuts from the New Orleans Saints in 2012. Pannell is currently a graduate assistant at Peru State University in Nebraska.

Joe Mayone played two years of varsity football at Groves from 2010-11. He captained the team his senior year to a league championship and the first playoff berth since 2004. While playing quarterback at Groves, he set several school single season and career passing records. After playing two years of Quarterback at Albion, Mayone moved to tight end where he experienced success as a Junior and Senior. During his junior year, he hauled in 28 passes for 515 yards and 5 TDs. As a senior, he would help the Brits to a conference championship. He caught 34 passes for 708 yards and 8 TDs. For his career he would end up playing in 20 games, catching 64 passes for 1,223 yards and 13 touchdowns.
